Introduction to American Government

Prep work:  Brainstorm on the following question,

"When you think about America, what are some things you think of?"

Please write a short essay (front and back) discussing YOUR OPINIONS on the following questions. Be sure to be specific about what you think, give details, use examples, ask questions, and expand on your ideas as you develop. Use your own paper and be sure to label it with the proper paper heading.

What does it mean to be "American?"

What are our responsibilities as American citizens? (by others, your government?)

Should a citizen have an understanding of the history of our country and the workings of the government? Why or why not?

Should someone who wants to become a citizen of the USA have to take a test to obtain citizenship? If so what percentage should they have to score correctly? What percentage should those who are are already citizens be able to score?
